50ft oh casts, comparison double
haul timing
The purpose of these simulations is to
illustrate the impact of timing of double haul on a periodic cast.
Three simulations are compared with the only
variation being the timing of the peak haul velocity:
· Peak haul velocity simultaneous with max angular velocity,
denoted “peak haul 0ms”.
· Peak haul velocity 50 ms after max
angular velocity, denoted “peak haul +50ms”,
same as in 50ft oh casts, comparison incl. and excl double haul.
· Peak haul velocity 100 ms after max
angular velocity, denoted “peak haul +100ms”.
Note: The double haul increases the line
length up to 0.50 m and the peak haul velocity is 3.8 m/s.

Notes on energies and work:
· The kinetic energy for the line includes leader and fly.
· An offset giving the minimum line kinetic energy 0 has been
applied.
